Once upon a time,
THE HERMANN’S TORTOISE

The Hermann’s tortoise is a tortoise species endemic to the Mediterranean basin, named in honour of the naturalist Jean Hermann.

Threatened with extinction in the 1990s, it has since been the focus of numerous initiatives aimed at protecting and preserving the species. The Plaine des Maures Nature Reserve was created in particular to provide a protected habitat for this species, which can naturally be found among the vines of Château Gasqui.

The distinctive character of this species inspired the labels of the Château’s red wine bottles.
